Chris sails to the finish line

Estates teammate Chris White was crowned the 2018 Gul GP14 World Champion after smashing a tricky sailing challenge, beating 120 crews.

The GP14 is one of the UK’s most popular sailing dinghies for competitive racing and the 2018 Worlds brings together some of the best amateur dinghy sailors in the country.

This year’s competition took place at Mount’s Bay Sailing Club in picturesque Cornwall. Competitors battled the sea (and the odd bit of rain!) in a sailing challenge split across four days. Each crew is awarded points as they travel between set markers before being given an overall ranking on the final day.

Chris and his crewmate Mike were in 6th position after the first day’s sailing, before turning it around to come out on top! They’re over the moon to have secured 1st place after reaching 5th in the 2016 Worlds.

Chris said: “The best thing about sailing is that after a day on the water you finish it with a few beers, sharing stories of what worked and what didn’t, and then you do it all again in the morning – I can’t think of any other sport like it. We had a plan, executed it well and it really paid off!”

HUGE congrats Chris – you’re the king of the seas J
