Matt Baker announces prize winner

The winner of the Wainwright Golden Beer Book Prize was announced at BBC's Countryfile Live on Thursday 3 August at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire

The Wainwright prize, set up by Alfred Wainwright’s family and his original publishers, celebrates the best books about nature and UK travel (Alfred was an avid fell walker!).

This year, two BBC presenters were on the judging panel, Matt Baker and Julia Bradbury. Matt announced the winner, John-Lewis Stempel, and presented him with his £5,000 award for his book Where Poppies Blow – a story about British soldiers in the First World War and their relationship with the animals and plants around them.

Of course, on the day, there were plenty of refreshments to go round too, with everyone flocking to the bar for samples and pints after the winner had been announced.
