Success tastes sweet at The Apple Cart

Teammates at The Apple Cart are celebrating some very special award wins.

The Two for One team achieved a phenomenal amount last year and the pub has been recognised as the best in Peterborough because of their efforts, particularly for the incredible work they’ve done to support their local communities and put The Apple Cart on the map locally.

Manager Keith Fletcher was thrilled to collect two Blakemore Foodservice Awards: the Community Interaction Award and the overall Peter Blakemore Award. It’s the second year in a row that Keith has been crowned the overall winner (he took the 2015 title whilst managing The Spring Tide in Lowestoft), making him the only ever double champion in the 13 years that the awards have been going! The awards celebrate commitments made by food and drinks businesses to things like menu innovation, customer service and positive impacts in their local communities.

This success follows the team’s efforts during last year’s Help for Heroes Week – an initiative set up by Keith and fellow Two for One Manager Tom, which raised over £40,000 in total for charity – as well as its fundraising for Oliver’s Footsteps, to help five year-old Oliver walk unaided.

Regional Operations Manager Paul Beynon said: “It was a really fantastic achievement when Keith won the 2015 Peter Blakemore Award in his first year as a General Manager. To win the award for the second year running is testament to his drive and passion to go even bigger and better with his charity fundraising. It’s an incredible achievement and one The Apple Cart team and Marston’s should be extremely proud of. It brought a fantastic 2016 for Keith to a brilliant end!”

And our fundraising heroes went on to have even more success! The pub was voted Peterborough Telegraph Pub of the Year by customers out of 73 other pubs in the area. It really marks the site as a firm favourite and a ‘must-visit’ in Peterborough.

HUGE congratulations to Keith and The Apple Cart team for their achievements! Feeling inspired to follow in their footsteps? Watch the short film below to hear more from Keith about the benefits of charity work and how you can give it a go with teammates and customers at your site…
