From Disney to superheroes…

A special Christmas event was hosted at one of our Generous George pubs to give children from a local hospice a day to remember.

Children from the Demelza House hospice were invited to The Pheasant in Ashford, Kent, to celebrate Christmas early along with their parents, nurses and carers. The youngsters, ranging from 2 to 16, were greeted by our Marston’s teammates from The Pheasant and our training team who had dressed up as Disney and cartoon characters to give the children an amazing day. The youngsters had a fun filled afternoon where they created their own recipes in a ‘pizza bake off’, played a pool competition, painted faces, and did some balloon modelling! Even Santa popped in from the North Pole to say hello and handed out gifts donated by Marston’s and Hamley’s of London toy store.

The Demelza House hospice helps those who may not live a long life, to live a full life by providing care and support for seriously ill babies, children, young people and their families, across East Sussex, Kent and South East London, and Will Porter, Area Operations Manager MIT, wanted to raise some money for them by organising the event.

The special day was a huge success, and Will said: “I am proud to be part of such a great team at Marston’s. Our teammates at The Pheasant and from our training team did an amazing job in making the children’s day so special. Everyone got involved and the feedback we had from the children, their families and Demelza House was fantastic.

“We raised £1,250 on the day and I would like to thank every one of our people who got involved for their support, for dressing up, for their enthusiasm, generosity and engagement. You really made a difference to a child’s life”.

Will and the team have also set themselves a target to raise £10,000 for the Demelza House hospice, and Will is running the 2017 London marathon in April as part of the fundraising! So watch this space for more details on how you can support Will in raising money.

Well done to all of our teammates who were involved on the day – you really are a credit to Marston’s.
