The first-round heats of our Chef of the Year competition are now complete – and what a cook-off it was! The judges were hugely impressed with this year’s talent.

The heat is on! The first round of our Chef of the Year competition got under way last week, attracting Destination chefs from as far afield as Loch Lomond and the Isle of Wight.

Competitors were challenged to create a varied two-course menu for a panel of judges, including last year’s winner John Briggs. The judges all commented on how high the standard was and were taken back by the skill and passion of our chefs. Everyone involved should be hugely proud of what they achieved!

Judge Nicki Smith said: “The whole day was run very professionally but with an undertone of calmness that allowed the chefs to relax and produce the best food they could.”

Donnie, a chef from Queen of the Loch in Scotland agreed: “For me it was all about showing my passion for cooking and presenting good food for people to eat. As long as my food is enjoyed, then I’ve already won!”

The semi-finalists will be announced shortly and will battle it out again next week, ready to see who’ll go through to the finals at River Cottage HQ in September.

Good luck to our competing chefs!
