The best of the best

Top filmmakers turn their hand to judging for the Marston’s Brewery Beer Town Film Festival.

This year, we’re excited to welcome renowned documentary filmmaker Joe Pearlman to our expert panel of judges. Joe hit the headlines last November for a documentary about the 80s band, BROS, and their reunion 28 years on. He’ll judge the short documentary category.

Joining Joe is Giles Alderson, an award-winning producer, director and screenwriter, director and producer Dom Lenoir, and Sam Lockyer who has made several programmes for TV and is currently directing his debut feature documentary titled 501 Not Out.

Two local judges join the team this year too: local teacher and musician Chris Baldwin is an award-winning musical composer and co-composed the original music for the BAFTA and BIFA award winning feature film, Tyrannosaur, and Heather Gallagher an experienced singer, actor and dancer and Principal and Founder of StageScreen drama school in Burton-on-Trent.

Jo, Marketing Manager, said: “Following the success of last year’s festival we have been able to attract an impressive range of filmmakers, writers and creatives to judge this year’s entries. The judges have a very tough job this year as the standard is considerably higher!”

With more than 700 film entries in a host of categories, it’s going to be a tough call for our panel of judges to pick the top talent!
