Our rising star of sustainability

We’re so proud of Waste & Recycling Coordinator Jon for making it into edie’s ’30 under 30’ class of 2019.

The list celebrates 30 young sustainability professionals from companies like the BBC, innocent, Harrods – and, of course, Marston’s – who are having a positive impact on the world we live in.

Jon joined Marston’s two years ago, bringing with him a lifelong interest in the environment and a PhD in sustainability. Since then, he’s worked really hard to make us a greener business by encouraging us all to sweat the small stuff to make a big difference.

As well as getting us to ‘wise up to waste’ and improve our recycling rate, Jon’s led innovative projects like using recycled plastic to create our beer gardens and the successful trial of cardboard balers at our pubs. All of his efforts paid off last year when we became the first pub company to achieve zero waste to landfill (two years ahead of our target date!).

Being named on the ’30 under 30’ list marks Jon as one of the UK’s sustainability leaders of the future. He’ll be able to attend exclusive Sustainability Leaders Club networking events to learn from green-minded business leaders and will have his profile featured on edie.net (keep a look out for it!).

edie‘s Content Director Luke Nicholls said: “30 Under 30 is perhaps the most exciting and inspiring project I have ever been a part of. The sheer volume of nominations we received and the calibre of the ‘class of 2019’ give me a great sense of confidence that these bright, ambitious up-and-comers have what it takes to transform business, for good.”

Global Action Plan partner Chris Large added: “They’re not just the 30 to watch. They’re the 30 to teach us how to think differently.”

Huge congratulations and thanks for all of your hard work, Jon! 🙂
