Top of the class!

Huge congrats to our teammates at Banks’s Brewery – their experimental brew, Guavageddon, was awarded Beer of the Festival at the Wolverhampton Beer & Cider Festival 2018!

CAMRA’s Wolverhampton Beer & Cider Festival takes place every year and features a huge selection of real ale (cask and keg), cider and international bottled beer.

Beer enthusiasts and ale lovers from across the midlands stop by to try a pint and rate their faves. Back in 2011, the very first run of Banks’s Sunbeam was sampled here and the positive feedback helped support the case for it to become a permanent feature in the brand family.

At this year’s event, Banks’s Brewery donated three beers including a special one-off experimental brew called Guavageddon – a tropical and fruity IPA (4.7%), brewed with Pilsner malt and a little crystal, caramalt and malted wheat to provide the deep gold colour.

Guavageddon was hopped in five separate stages and it’s the double dry hopping that gives it a unique tropical flavour of yellow stone fruits, passionfruit, blueberry, sweet citrus and (of course!) guava.

The special beer was so tasty that it came out on top and was awarded CAMRA Beer of the Festival 2018 – this is the first time in over 40 years that one of our beers has been given the top spot! Many of the brews come from smaller breweries and Banks’s is the largest brewery to win a prize.

The brains behind the brew, Assistant Head Brewer Simon, said: “We’re so proud to have won the top award! As well as brewing some of the Black Country’s favourites, we use our creative skill to brew a range of cutting edge, maximum-flavour beers, which have become increasingly popular with discerning beer lovers everywhere.”

CAMRA reps presented our brewing teammates with the special shield and certificate. Huge congrats on winning the top spot, team 🙂
