Calling all cyclists

Compton Care has launched the 2019 Banks’s Round the Wrekin Cycle Sportive

Back for its fourth successful year, the cycle around Shropshire’s beautiful countryside follows hot on the heels of this year’s event, which raised more than £30,000 for the Wolverhampton-based charity.

Setting off on 19 May, there will be four cycle routes catering for all abilities: a short route of 24-miles (The Hugh Porter Challenge); a standard route of 64-miles (The Compton Care Classic); an epic route of 100-miles (The Banks’s route) taking in The Burway, Stiperstones and The Wrekin along the way; and new for this year, a 10-mile fun cycle suitable for all abilities.

Sarah Wooding, Compton Event Organiser, said: “We are really excited to be launching the 2019 Banks’s Round the Wrekin Cycle Sportive in aid of Compton. Since we first launched the sportive, the total amount raised over the last three years is now in excess of £80,000.

“We are hoping even more people will join us on one of the four routes in next year’s event to raise even more money, which will enable us to continue to provide extraordinary care to our patients and their families living with complex and incurable illnesses free of charge.”

World Cycling Champion Hugh Porter MBE launched the event earlier this week at Banks’s Brewery. He will also be riding the Hugh Porter Challenge Route, which was named in his honour. He said: “My ultimate ambition is to see 1,000 riders taking part, raising over £50,000 for this very worthy cause.”

Online entries are open and prices start from just £10 – just click here to get involved. Plus, this year, you can look the part in a Compton Care cycle jersey, at £25 each, or get a free one if you raise £200 in sponsorship.
