Chris is hitting the high notes

Chris, General Manager at The Smithfield Bell in Welshpool, is the brains behind a charity single to raise money charity.

Chris is a retained firefighter. He works ‘on call’ for the National Fire and Rescue Service alongside his work at pub and can be called away at any time to respond to an emergency.

He was inspired to create the single after hearing the Band Aid single ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas Time’ on the jukebox. He said: “The song came on and everybody in the pub, young and old, sang along and that’s when the idea came to me.”

Chris secured the rights to the song from Sir Bob Geldof and then rallied ran to get other firefighters on board. “We wanted to honour the spirit of the original song because it’s instantly recognisable, but put our own special stamp on it. I’m so impressed that everyone jumped on board straight away and helped turn my idea into a reality,” Chris added.

Word quickly spread and the idea was picked up by Anthony Greaves, Principle of BIMM Musical College in Birmingham, who donated session time at a newly built recording studio.

The Fire Tones is made up of 35 members of the fire service and together they spent 12 hours recording with expert vocal coach Louise Warren and master producer Steve Osborne. And, Former winner of The Voice Stevie McCrorie agreed to take part alongside Andy Quinn, star of Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and X Factor contestant Marc Higgins.

Chris said: “The interest in the single has been great and we’re really excited for it to launch. The odds are currently at 2:1 for Christmas number one and it’s available to buy on 1 December from iTunes, Spotify and Amazon music.” And, they’ve been featured in lots of local papers, too!
