Congrats to the winner of this year’s Urban ‘Create a Dish’ comp

Rob – Chef at The Hanwell Arms – wowed the judges with his Chippy Tea Burger to take the top spot. It’s a delicious piece of battered fish topped with mushy peas and onion rings and served in a brioche bun with a side of chips, gravy and curry sauce!

The ‘Create a Dish’ competition challenges pub teammates to invent a new dish that could feature on the menu in their pub. To enter, they simply fill out an application form detailing the dish, the cost of the ingredients and a selling price.

35 teammates entered from across our Urban pubs (that’s 16 more entries than last year!) and the judges selected a shortlist of 14 to compete in a Dragon’s Den style cook-off at the Talent Academy.

As well as crowning the winner, the judges also named three inspiring dishes:

  • Craig Shein(The Old house at Home): Honey BBQ and Chicken salad
  • Ethan (The Plough and Barleycorn): Veggie Fish and Chips
  • James (The Trafalgar): Fully Loaded Boats

Nikita, Kitchen Skills Trainer, said: “It was a pleasure to judge the competition because all the entries were so incredible! I’m really proud of everyone who got involved and Rob’s burger definitely deserves the crown. We’re already planning to run the competition next year, so watch this space.”

Rob’s dish will feature on the new Urban menu that will launch in February 2019. Congrats Rob – we can’t wait to try it 🙂
