Urban takeover

Members of our Urban Format Leadership Team had a go at running The Fairways, Sheffield, on the second hottest day of the year.

To raise some extra cash during Community Heroes Week, the Urban FLT ran a special raffle via its Facebook group. The top prize? Members of the Urban FLT running your pub for the day!

The raffle made nearly £500 for community causes and teammates at The Fairways were crowned the winners during a Facebook Live video.

While the team enjoyed a well-deserved break, the Urban FLT took hold of the reins at the pub – cleaning, behind the bar, in the kitchen and on the floor. They even hired a jet wash for the day and popped some new tables in to spruce up the outdoor patio!

With two functions rooms, an all-day carvery and a full daytime menu to contend with, it was no mean feat – but the team did a great job and took £3,000 on the day. Dave, Head of Franchise, said: “It was important that we did our bit to raise money for charity, but it was also about getting close to the pubs. It’s really great to get that insight and to really see how our operators bring Urban to life.

“It was an absolute scorcher on the day, with lots of customers sitting outside; but we did everything we could to keep things running smoothly,” he added.

Tessa, Menu Development Manager, said: It was hard work – I’m not used to being on my feet all day anymore! But it was really fun to get back to the floor and interact with real customers again. It was also useful to see how customers react to the food and menus we develop.”

  • Head of Franchise Dave, Head of Drinks Mark, Assistant Marketing Manager Amy, Ops Manager Matt, People Development Manager Chris and Project Manager Seth took charge of the bar and serving on the floor.
