Saluting our Forces

This Saturday is Armed Forces Day (30 June). It’s the perfect opportunity to show our support for servicemen and women across the country.

Armed Forces Day is a great way for all of us to celebrate the contribution and bravery of our troops – and it’s really easy to get involved! Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Follow Armed Forces Day on social media and share its posts throughout the day.
  • Attend an event – there are hundreds of free get-togethers taking place across the UK.
  • Show your support by fundraising for Help for Heroes or holding an event of your own at your Marston’s site. Download an event toolkit and a whole host of other resources here.
  • Get together with teammates, customers, friends or family and post a picture or short film of you ‘saluting the Forces’, using #Marstons #SaluteOurForces.
  • Join in and fly your own Armed Forces Day flag, bunting, hand-wavers, or banners. Do an internet search for ‘Armed Forces Day flag’ for some inspiration.

What are our pub teams planning?

The Chalkhill Blue, Andover, is showcasing a beautiful display of handmade poppies in its beer garden, made by children at the local primary school. They’re also hosting a special BBQ with live music and a bouncy castle for the little ones.

Lessees of The Kings Head, Lichfield, have a very special Armed Forces story to tell. The pub has an historic link with the Staffordshire Regiment and, when the pub lease was up for grabs in 2016, a group of Veterans raised the money to buy it.

This special link means the pub can work towards supporting veterans with one-to-one and group coaching, a mentoring scheme and a range of specially designed workshops. The team is hosting a special breakfast club for veterans and their families on Armed Forces Day.
