#workwithme

We love to shout about our fab teammates and Matt and James from the King’s Head, in Beverley, East Yorkshire, are no exception!

They nurtured and developed Nathan Heddle’s talent, giving him independence, skills and bags of confidence.

Nathan, who has recently flown the Marston’s nest, has complex learning difficulties with a variety of different needs and was introduced to the King’s Head by the national charity Scope, which secures placements with supportive employers for people with disabilities. Scope shines a spotlight on the barriers disabled people face getting into and progressing in work and its #workwithme campaign calls on employers, Government and the public to tackle these issues.

Matt, General Manager, gave Nathan his first job as a glass washer and this was a massive turning point in Nathan’s life. After many rejections, he had finally found a company willing to give him a chance and the rest is history…

Nathan went on to train as a kitchen porter with the help of James, Head Chef. It gave him financial independence, structure and a huge boost in confidence. Nathan’s dad, Malcolm spoke highly of Matt and James saying: “They have invested heavily with their patience, professionalism, generosity of spirit and good humour throughout. They are absolute stars!”

After almost ten years of continuous employment at the King’s Head, Nathan has now moved on to concentrate on his dog walking and animal boarding business. We wish Nathan every success with his business venture!

We’re really proud of Matt and James for believing in Nathan and nurturing his talent.
