Week of madness

Our extreme heroes Tom and Keith survived their week-long madcap challenge, raised thousands for Help for Heroes – and made it back in time for Tom’s wedding!

Help for Heroes has inspired many people to take up exciting challenges in support of injured servicemen and women. Not many go quite as far as General Managers Keith Fletcher from the Apple Cart and Tom Bellis from the Sugar Mill, who took on some of the biggest trials the UK could throw at them – all in one strenuous week!

Between 5-11 September, the two heroes carried out SEVEN full-on challenges in SEVEN days, covering hundreds of miles. All accompanied by a nine-gallon Marston’s barrel full of sand! They were joined throughout by Clarion teammates, who showed their support on a Welsh mountain and a very muddy run.

Here’s what their week of relentless challenges looked like:-

Day 1 – Gateshead to Carlisle bike ride
Day 2 – Climb Mount Snowdon
Day 3 – Skydive
Day 4 – Climb Scafell Pike
Day 5 – Climb Ben Nevis
Day 6 – Tough Mudder
Day 7 – Great North Run, half marathon

Along the way, there were some obstacles that made it even harder, including the British weather (serious fog and 40 mile-an-hour winds on the mountains), technical problems (two flat tyres and a faulty SatNav adding 18 miles to their cycle trip), and overcoming a few personal fears – Tom’s was the skydive but he did it and was still smiling at his wedding to Sian a week later! And Keith’s biggest dread was the notoriously tough Great North Run but 3 hours 10 minutes later, it was all over and their challenges were completed.

All these efforts – plus some fantastic fundraising from Clarion pubs – mean they have raised an incredible £23k so far. But even that’s not enough for our restless heroes – they are still keen to continue to climb the heights and reach their £38k target.

“Tom and Keith did everything off their own back and I am very proud of them,” says Paul Beynon, Area Operations Manager. “So come on Marston’s – dig deep! They certainly deserve our support.”

Help them reach their target and show your support for everything they’ve achieved here.

HUGE congratulations to everyone involved from all of us at Marston’s 🙂
